Update from Administrator – November 25, 2020

November 25, 2020
Dear Families,
As always, our team and I hope this email finds you safe and healthy.

Just to update you, there are 5 more residents in house who have tested positive as of yesterday. Our total number of residents who have had positive test results is 6. Positive residents are placed in a room on the Covid-19 Positive Cohort Unit, until they can be returned to their previous room. We will continue testing and reporting at regular intervals as required by CMS, CDC and DPH.

Due to the outbreak which began with our first resident who tested positive, the facility is offering virtual visits. End of life and compassionate care visits that are authorized by the resident’s physician are the only indoor visits being permitted at this time. This step is taken for safety purposes of controlling the spread to other residents and staff.

As a reminder from Monday, the state of Connecticut’s Department of Public Health is offering some considerations and recommendations on how to celebrate the holidays with your loved ones who reside in a nursing home. We know that the holidays are important for loved ones as a time to come together and be together. As you make plans to visit and celebrate with your loved one, we encourage you to assess the risk of getting or spreading COVID-19. Last week we included information from the Department of Public Health (DPH), in our weekly email for your review. We have added that to our website and Facebook for your reference.

We are reminding our staff to not only practice safeguards against COVID in our center, but to be vigilant outside of our center and share these practices with their friends and loved ones. We still ask you to do your part while in your community and PLEASE wear your mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance. And please promote these very simple precautions with your extended family and friends.

We are hoping the Thanksgiving weather cooperates and the outdoor strolling musicians will be able to play for our residents at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. We’ve been promised that the music will be loud enough in order for our residents to listen from their rooms. Let’s hope our neighbors like live music on Thanksgiving.

Just a reminder, we will not hold our weekly Friday call on 11/27/2020. Our next call will be Friday, 12/4/2020 at 1 p.m.

As always, thank you for your patience. Our entire team extends our warm wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,
Linda A. Urbanski, Ph.D., Administrator
