Update from Administrator – August 17, 2021

Dear Family Members and Responsible Parties,

This email is sent to notify you that a vaccinated staff member has tested positive for the Coronavirus. As a result, Newtown Rehabilitation and Health Care Center has now been placed in Outbreak Mode. All staff and residents regardless of their vaccination status need to be tested within 48 hours.

If any staff or residents test positive, they will need to be quarantined for 14 days.

Indoor visits and group activities have stopped. If you would like to visit with your loved ones, you can visit virtually using iPads, tablets, smart phones, etc. or you can visit outdoors. Please call the Recreation Dept at 203-426-5847  to schedule your Virtual Visit and/or your Outdoor Visit so we can make sure we are accommodating everyone in the safest manner possible.

If there are no additional positive test results, indoor visits may resume on the unaffected units after the first round of testing is completed, unless the State Epidemiologist directs us differently. I will keep you updated regarding test results once we test all the staff and residents.

Compassionate Care and End Of Life visits will not be affected by the Outbreak.  If your loved one is receiving Compassionate Care and End of Life visits, please contact Recreation to schedule a convenient time for your visit at 203-426-5847 and ask for Recreation. If you are coming for a Compassionate Care and/or End of Life visit, please enter the building with a mask on and keep your mask on at all times. If your loved ones are on the airborne precautions unit, you also will be issued full Personal Protective Equipment. At the end of the visit, please remove the PPE before stepping out into the hallway and dispose of the PPE in the designated container.

Thank you for your understanding and support at this time. Please continue to be safe, maintain social distancing and wash your hands.

Sincerely,

Linda A. Urbanski, Ph.D., Administrator
